Packing a golden punch

THE team at KCP think they pack a big punch but not as big as the lads at the Logan Boxing Club.

Two lads from the little local club, sponsored by KCP, took part in the Western District Boxing Championships at the ARC Springburn at the weekend and came back with a gold and a silver.

Mason Biggs (10) son of club owner Brian took silver in his age group in his first competitive event and 16 year-old Ruben Buckland took gold in his age group and moves up to the next level later this year.

Brian said: “I am very proud of them but I am very proud of all our members. We are just a small club and haven't been going all that long.”

Brian charges his youngest members, under 10, just £5 a month to come along to three sessions a week at the gym in Holmhead Crescent, Logan and the older members pay just £10.

And Wendy Pring managing director of KCP Environmental Ltd in Cumnock who sponsor the Logan Boxing Club said: “That is why we take pleasure in supporting this club. They provide young people with a place to meet, get exercise and tackle challenges which will help them in their future lives.”

And Brian agreed: “I started the club with my own children in mind and am very proud of the way it has Developed. I keep the costs to the members very low so that everyone can afford to be a part of it and it wouldn't be possible without people like Wendy and Karl at KCP who support us and sponsor us and allow us to keep going.”

And boxing is very much a family affair for the Logan Club. Brian's eldest son helps out with the coaching, then there is Mason, his step sons Ashley and Joseph and his six year-old daughter Ciara. Ashley recently took silver in the Scottish Intermediate Championships against the three times champion.

The Club runs Mon, Wed, Fri nights from 5.15pm-9pm and there are training sessions for under 10s and over 10s and seniors. The club always welcomes new member, boys and girls. Find them on Facebook or contact Brian on 07598692179.
